  • Internal Philosophy on A/B Testing:
  • Memory of Ads: Our internal philosophy is based on the belief that most people are unlikely to remember specific details of an ad after a single exposure. Therefore, it may not matter if they see different versions of the ad during a campaign.
  • Exposure and Results: If it takes more than one exposure to achieve the desired result, showing different versions of the ad should not negatively impact performance. In fact, it might even enhance it by exposing the audience to multiple perspectives.
  • Approach to Ad Sets: Instead of relying solely on Meta’s A/B testing feature, we often create one ad set for each target audience. We then expose that ad set to both versions of the social content to gather data on which version resonates more with each audience segment.

Reporting

Current Process:

  • Data Collection: Our current process involves using Data Studio (now known as Looker) and APIs to pull data from various social platforms and Google Ads. This allows us to consolidate performance metrics across different channels.
  • Analysis: We analyse this data to determine which ad has performed better within each campaign. By comparing the results of the A/B tests, we can draw conclusions about what works best and apply these insights to future campaigns.

Future Improvements:

  • Automation with OpenAI: In the near future, we plan to automate much of this analysis using OpenAI. By setting up parameters for each A/B test—such as the specific factors being tested and the criteria for success—we can streamline the evaluation process.
  • Evaluation Criteria: This automated analysis will help us determine whether a campaign should be extended or ended based on its performance. We will also assess whether the creative elements were engaging enough and if the target audience was well-suited for the campaign.
  • Campaign Performance: Ultimately, this approach will allow us to make more informed decisions about creative strategy and audience targeting, leading to more effective marketing campaigns.
